Me, myself & SEOContest2008!

DAY 1: 18th Feb
I am late for the seocontest2008 by 18 damn days! There must be 209 runners ahead of me for this marathon race. Don't you think its better to be late than REALLY LATE?

Being a part of this contest itself is exciting for me, its not about loosing or winning. Its gonna be a great experience for me, I had never participated in any SEOContest earlier. I admit money come 1st, at the same time I will be able to judge myself where I stand as far as SEO Matrix is concern. I am kind of nervous but lets see how it goes. If I loose I can decide whether to shift my trait from seo or start learning from the winner! I haven't decided what to do if I manage to win.

My heartiest thanks to team UK Webmaster World for this oppurtunity and I curse myself for getting the news late. I wish the very best for all contestants. This little poem is for you.

You are your greatest asset,
there is nothing you can't do
No one can stop you from dreaming,
only you can stop them from coming true.
Beleive in yourself.

As of now I am not doing much on the on-page optimization but rather focus more on backlinks.I am just hoping I get some relevant noteworthy sites/blogs to link me. Mind you, I am walking through a congested traffic.

I wrote to some of my friends to lend me few links till 1st April. On this day seocontest2008's result will be updated for the very last time. Mine is a Search Engine friendly website and it won't do any harm if they link to me for a little more than a month, what say?

DAY 3: 20th Feb
Some of my friends have responded positively, WOW I do have good friends. All of a sudden I have decided I will contribute the price money to Manipur Youth Foundation, a non-profit voluntary organization dedicated for education of students below poverty line. They have done a good job, I appreciate the team for their humble contribution towards the organization and Manipur as a whole in spite of their tight schedules.
There can't be a better option than this one.
I am being positive, I need positive ambience these days more than anyone. The sick part is my page is not index yet...I am getting scare somehow. I miss last year too, its was "Global warming awareness 2007". I never bother to check who won. I am happy to know there were a handful of Indian seo guys there for the contest. This year the number is less, I guess its 3/4 contestants at the most. The number of overall participants is less this year. I thought I must be the last one but the fact is only 112 guys have registered so far.

Check out no.74 - nice nick but poor soul he/she is being blacklisted. God knows the reason but her blog is unqualify.
Hey comon lets be serius with this seocontest and respect the rules. There is nothing to loose by following the simple rules and regulations or is it? SEO is such an industry where there is one blackhead for every two whitehead guys!!!

Importance of keywords in Domain names in SEO

Lets analyse the url, all of them has the targetted keyword "seocontest2008" in the domain name. Therefore we can definitely guess the importance of keyword or keyphrase in domain as far as search engine optimization is concern. Saying that, one should always choose the correct domain name right from the registration. Besides SEO there are number of factors for choosing the right domain name. If you are a businessman with an already establish business, it would make sense to use your company name. If you are promoting a particular product, it may be a better idea to use its product name. If its a personal website you could use your own name and so on. Some of the ground rules of choosing a domain name:-

1. Its shouldn't be too long
2. It should be easy to remember
3. Absolute NO-NO to names which are prone to mispell the word.

Like the website name domain extension is also crucially important.
The choice of wgat domain extension to register your site should also be
driven by your target audience. Registering with a .com is the default
consideration. Most people associate website address with the .com
extension. So even if they have heard your company and what to visit
your site, one would try your company.com first. Ofcouse search engine
would help but this point could be important in the early days of your
website before you get into the search index.

I guess I talk enough and my page is going too long trying to aadd fresh
content everyday for the Google Bot. I am tired of waiting.......

I understand the need for contents in SEO. Robots cannot read the image
, the flashy things you are putting on your site. Its the content thats making
sense. In Search Engine Optimization content is the king but
positively no specific number of words that any given page needs to
contain in order to gain highly targeted search engine traffic.
According to Jill every page is different as it has different needs and
different target markets.

Your pages should be as long or as short as the need to be in order to
say what they need to say. The number of words on the page is not a
search engine issue at all, but a marketing issue. SEO can be performed
on any page, regardless of its length because search engines know that it
takes a varying amount of words to get your point across.

He Ya Ho! Google Bot index my page -DAY5: 22nd Feb

Thanks to everyone who link to me without any hesitation.
Google finally visited my page this morning. As on Google datacenter
64.233.183.1 - I am listed on 71th position :-(
But I am nowhere to be seen if you use the given search string by the
UK Webmaster World
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&q=seocontest2008
&btnG=Search
I need more n more links to get me on top. Do you know Google has
700+ datacenter and there is variation on the results?
If the answer is NO, read more.

Easy way to check Google Datacenter

According to Matt Cutts,
a senior engineer in Google Inc all the data at all of the IP addresses
within one Class-C block should usually be the same results, as typically
they are all the same datacentre.
But how do you check which datacenter your results are from?
When you do a search in Google.com you can very easily find out which
datacenter your results are from by running your mouse over "Cached"
hyperlink on the result page (its located next to the every url on the results
page). The address can be visible on the status bar. The address will look
like this:
http://66.102.7.99/search?q=cache:ZmuFn7M2....
Here 66.102.7.99 is the IP address of the Google datacenter you are
currently using.

25th Feb, DAY ???? I forgot

I did nothing about this seocontest2008 last weekend. I was just lazing around, picking my nose and thinking all the time. As the saying goes "a weekend wasted isn't a wasted weekend". Sadly there were some -ve response from good siteowners, its either hosted on different domain and don't have access to link me and sort of....I tell myself not to worry.
I was thinking of writting one or two article to submit for seocontest2008 and atleast get some incoming link from the authors' byline. But the point is..how many sites will publish it immediately? Very few, since I've couple of weeks to pump myself I donno if its a good idea. The best suited way according to my hurry hurry situation would be social bookmarking. Link exchange is possibly dead and if I go for link exchange now, its a suicide! So thats a very bad choice.

Height of spam link request

There was a time when "Link Exchange" was the buzzword in SEO but we can say its completely dead now. Thanks to the great spammers, Search Engine Axe fell to all of us.
My inbox was always full of link request spam, well written emails without my website details! The funiest part is 90% of the emails received had the same email body, word to word similarities.

When you exchange a link with a site maintained by such spammers
then O Boy! you are done. Your email is fetched, they will use the same data again and again for every link exchange project they have. Damn the theme or any other linking criteria, they just don't care to even visit your site.
Lately I have seen a strange scam of link exchange. Its not bulk but "Massive" is the word. You don't exchange link with websites but with the spammasters who are running the link campaigns.
Each one will list their sites and whoever find it interesting can contact them directly. Most of the time the number of websites are not less than 30. Everytime they found a new webmaster email ID they will just add it to the group and Bang Bang Bang (Do you think they will ask you for a notification before adding??? )....hit the button "SEND IT TO ALL"

Some webmaster (who is sick of this) forwarded the emails threating to take action for spamming and some really took out the time explaining how to filter such mails in future and resend it to the sender to give them a headache. He must be a firm beleiver of Newton's law of motion -

"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction"

The problem here is these spammers are ignorant about how fast the internet is moving, ignorant about search engine optimization as a whole.
They are just like the horse with face cover to restrain them from seeing sideways and keep moving without a destination.
For them it’s the number game, larger the link partners better the pay and longer they stick to the job. With the increasing number of social networking sites this kind of group/community is becoming out of control.
I am sorry for them, they didn't realise they are digging their own grave.

Therefore, I made up my mind link exchange for this seocontest2008 would be a bad bad option.

Social Bookmarking and SEOContest 2008

Social Bookmarking is becoming more and more popular in SEO world. It definitely increases your hits but you have to make sure about
"no follow" and good content to make your link active or popular.

Also you're forgetting about the secondary links that a listing on a popular social network sites bring. Lots of people blog the articles that they read on popular social bookmarking sites so you can pick up hundreds of additional links from related blogs.
I am sure many contestents of this SEOContest2008 is busy bookmarking their sites.

Social Bookmarking Sites to help your traffic, not only for seocontest2008 but for everything else.
